Welcome to Travel Like a Local: Massachusetts

Boston City Skyline from Memorial Drive.

I consider myself very fortunate to live in Massachusetts. Growing up in New Jersey, and living in New York City before settling here, Boston was really the first place I lived as an adult that truly felt like home.

I immediately found that Massachusetts has a ton to offer, and there is a reason why tens of millions of travelers come here to visit each year. Between the city of Boston, Cape Cod and the Islands, the North Shore, the South Shore, Western Mass and everything in between, there really is something for everyone in Massachusetts. I’ve always loved providing tips and recommendations for friends and family on what they should see and do when they come to town. My goal has always been to provide the inside scoop on how to experience Massachusetts as if they live here themselves. Most people I talk to want to avoid “tourist traps” and go where the locals go…and so, Travel Like a Local: Massachusetts was born.

Now, I can’t take credit for the idea. My sister, Erin, has been running the blog Travel Like a Local: Vermont for a few years now, and has been after me to partner up with her to expand into Massachusetts. Since I’ve been doing more local travel than ever recently, it seemed like the perfect time to start.

While I live in Boston (where there is lots to do – and so many unique neighborhoods to explore), my husband and I love traveling to Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, along with the little towns dotting the North Shore, the beaches of the South Shore and the Berkshires as well. Whether it’s checking out the newest brewery, exploring the local shops, discovering new art galleries and museums, eating at the best restaurants or simply taking in the scenery, I love exploring this great state.

My hope is that I can share a little about what I love most about living in Massachusetts with all of you, and perhaps provide a few tips on things to do and see along the way. Whether you live locally in Massachusetts, or are just visiting for a while, I hope you find it helpful and maybe gain some inspiration for your next Massachusetts adventure!

“I don’t want to be a tourist… I want to be a traveler. I want to go where the locals go. Eat what the locals eat. I want behind-the-scenes tips to give me a real feeling for places I visit. So ‘traveling like a local’ is what I aspire to do.” – Erin McCormick, Travel Like a Local: Vermont
